The Under Secretary of State for the Colonies
Sir,
present 27027
I have the honour to humbly submit the following to your consideration
and to request that, if consistent with the rules, you will advise that I be
awarded the various amounts.
I was invalided from the Colony to Hong Kong, where I held the office of Inspector of Nuisances, on March 6th 1901. I left the Colony at 12:30 P.M. having to draw leave pay.
Leaving Hong Kong on the 5th March, and commencing leave on the 6th March. I had to appear at the Office for my leave papers that day & actually did work on that day.
"You will hold that I should have drawn working pay for the 6th and commenced leave pay on the morning of the 7th and hence have yet to draw one day's leave pay as my leave would commence one day later.
Janitery Brand, Hong Kong, states that I was in their employ on the 6th March 1901.
As regards character, from the 6th day onwards, I was granted house allowance. During my illness I was ordered by the doctor to reside up the Peak at Government Bungalows.
As this house was partly furnished by Government money, my house allowance of $35 dollars per month was withdrawn, though I had to pay out of my salary an additional sum of $4 per fortnight for the use of furniture.
In my leave papers no mention is made of house allowance which was part of my full pay.
